Have you finished your meal?
Marilyn Smith, the founder of the “Fart Walk” movement, encourages people to take a short walk after meals to pass gas and help the digestive system. The self-proclaimed “Fiber Queen” cookbook author from Toronto came up with the bizarre concept after taking a one-hour walk and relaxing with her husband after dinner. “It all started ten years ago,” Smith recalls. “I suggested my husband go for a walk after dinner. When you eat a lot of fiber like we do, you get bloated. We walked, we farted…#fartwalk Legend was born for him.”
Smith’s regular farting habit is endorsed by doctors, who say it’s great for gut health. “It’s well known that exercise helps with digestion,” Dr. Lisa Ganjaho, a gastroenterologist at NYU Langone, told us.Own“When you move, your digestive system moves, too. This helps stimulate peristalsis — or the movement of your intestines, which is essential for the proper breakdown of food.” Speeding up digestion can also help relieve heartburn, acid reflux, and bloating.
