This weekend, Petr Olesko and shooter Petr Jurisun, who finished second at the European Championships on home soil, will represent Estonian shooting at the Paris Olympics.
The shooting competition center is located outside the city, which is unusually far away. “The biggest difference in the Paris Olympics is that the shooting competition is held 250 kilometers away from the main center, which brings certain problems. This is a bit unusual,” said Melis Loiter, head of the Paris Olympic shooting delegation.
The shooters have everything they need in the Olympic Village, but everything is spartan, as is customary at the Olympics. “We compete at one of the best shooting ranges in the world. It’s a very good range, but the living conditions there are not the best in the world. It’s pretty spartan,” said Leut.
Despite the complexities of the world situation, where the transport and storage of weapons always require precision, the situation in Paris should not be much different from normal. “It’s just that there is more paperwork than usual. The weapons are kept in separate armouries, but that’s normal. It’s the same at the World Cup. At the moment I don’t see much difference,” Loiter added.
