Palau athletes qualify for Paris Olympics

KOROR, Palau – Three Palau athletes have qualified for the upcoming Paris Olympics to be held from July 26 to August 11.

Sprinter Sydney Francisco will compete in the women’s 100-meter track and field event on August 2 at 10 a.m. Swimmers Yuri Hosei and Jion Hosei will both compete in the 50-meter freestyle, with Yuri competing at 11 a.m. on August 3 and Jion at 11 a.m. on August 1.

Jimmy Jonas will coach the swimming team, while Uchel Tmetuchl will captain the track and field team. Marcy Andrew will serve as team captain for Palau, while Stephanie Ngirchoimei and Radley Kazuma will serve as NOC staff.

Officials travelling with the team included Judy Otto (World Aquatics Council), Frank Kiotá (NOC President), Barclay Temongil (NOC Secretary General), board members Hila Asanuma and Ernestine Rengiil and Kenny Reclay (representing the Oceania National Olympic Committees).

Athletes and coaches will travel to Divonne, France, for a pre-Games training camp on July 13 and to Paris on July 22. Team management will depart on July 18 and NOC officials will arrive in Paris on June 23.

Palau will not participate in the Paralympics, which will be held from August 28 to September 8 after the Olympics. However, the country has begun developing plans to qualify athletes for the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics. (Author: L.
