Cambodia’s Defense Ministry announced on Saturday that a military helicopter had gone missing while flying over the heavily forested Cardamom Mountains in the southwest of the country, confirming earlier media reports that the aircraft lost contact on Friday.
The brief statement said the helicopter was on a training flight and that the air force headquarters lost contact with it while flying in bad weather. It did not say how many people were on board. The statement said the search and rescue operation for the missing aircraft had begun on Saturday morning. Local media reported that the search and rescue efforts were focused on Pursat province.
