The novel “Cinnamon Letters, Diamond Creatures”, like other works of Seshichi, is the product of the author’s extraordinary creative creativity and imagination, the author’s strong sensibility and consciousness, the feeling of all phenomena, especially the suffering of sentient beings in war and post-war periods. – The war period shows no signs of ending. Faruk Seshichi did not choose classic characters, and his story cannot be arranged according to the pattern of traditional narratives. Seshichi’s writing is the result of the desire to reveal the deep feelings of life and human suffering, to show people its complexity and duration.

A traumatized life

Because, among other things, war is also a spasm, a fantasy of its end, a hope that we will return to the life we ​​had in the past, the burden of a disastrous experience, facing the fact that nothing will ever go back to the way it was. This is how it is, but the new life must be lived among the ruins of the past. In these ruins, one should find the meaning of life, one should be happy and make others happy – but is it possible? Cinnamon Girl and Cortes Cortes are two unusual characters who engage in an interesting dialogue in which the author tries to convey to the reader his thoughts on these important questions:

Our First War destroyed dreams and desires, but more than that, it devoured people, digesting mass graves with difficulty, loving the fresh blood of children and teenagers, and feeding on what it encountered when there was nothing else to gain.

“You really annoy your potential readers,” Cinnamon quipped. “I didn’t, but I was just counting out loud.” “I’m not talking about novels, because describing the ravages of war is a tempting job. We have merged into our world, and that’s it. You need to describe this fusion, explain the seams in detail, and you don’t need any allegory. I hate storytelling as an end in itself. Someone must have told the author that he had to narrate, and then the readers get used to it. Well, you see, I will write, and I will try to break the expectation of always being the same. I will be edgy, new, innovative…” (Line 220, 2024)

In the fragmentation of our traumatized lives, it is impossible to see a single story from beginning to end, and it seems impossible to adhere to a linear narrative of events because we are simply no longer that way, our existence and bodies have been saturated with the unpredictable twists and turns of catastrophic and often dramatic events. Our First War (Page 9, 2024) Survive by collecting living fragments of distracted organisms throughout post-war life to restore their functionality – this is our thoughts, but also our actions.

Seshichi feels the coexistence of existence and phenomena. He tries to place emotions in space and time. Such a thing cannot be fully successful except in a surreal world that is difficult to understand without the imagination inspired by metaphysics and science fiction and by the art that marked the era of Breton and Borges in literature and Dali in fine art, Pink Floyd and Neil Young in the field of music (which was also the inspiration for the most memorable character of the book – Cinnamon Girl), and Steven Spielberg in the world of cinema. Despite the undeniable influences, Seshichi offers his own original understanding of the world in a different way. Thoughtful and illuminating, but not too heavy, because it tries to put the reader at ease – he can also feel him – and the phenomena he writes about. Seshichi also feels in this novel that the scars of war eat us every day with a depth far beyond the average. He is afraid at the same time We will die and be wasted forever.. because, Losing your soul is worse than death (p. 112, 2024), the authors note.

The book has a completely unusual cast, to whom the master of the imagination has endowed anthropomorphic attributes, bringing the reader’s experience closer. “Our First War” destroyed dreams and desires, but more than that, it devoured people, undigested mass graves, loved the fresh blood of children and teenagers, and when there was nothing else to gain, it fed on what it encountered. Suppose it were one of the characters Our First Warbut why is it called that? How many more wars will we have to fight, and will any of them ever really end?

The first war, broken love. The second war, no work, must be done. The third war of habit, addiction, routine, trivial pleasures, nostalgia for youth, love of ruins. The fourth war is a collection of all the previous wars, and some other puzzling things. Once you are no longer a civilian, there is no going back. Civilization is a state of consciousness, not the absence of uniforms. Uniforms are a psychological layer, not a collection.. (line 113, 2024)

In Sheshichi’s book, Amistad is a poet (Orwell is the city, for example, because the author wanted to give it that name, because of the historical impact and duration of Orwell’s books), but historically, Amistad is a ship that transported slaves from Europe. From Africa to America, where a rebellion took place. The pleasure of this book comes from lifting the veil of the layered allegory that Sheshichi uses extensively. Our lives are full of transactions, and if there is no rebellion in them, it cannot be celebrated. In fact, the rebellion against the current marked the war years of our society. In that crushed community, where opportunities are extremely reduced, our feat is to find a way out, to find the belief that one can and should fight for a better tomorrow. The hope for a life that does not exist can only be provided by the “diamond creatures”, who are real people, to whom the author owes real moments of happiness. This magnificent book on the theme of the search for the meaning of life is a tribute to the diamond creatures that no longer exist in the real world.

11 possible outcomes

Our lives are shattered by war and destruction, and we see the world exactly the same – not as a whole, but as scattered puzzles that we have been tirelessly trying to piece together for years – a view that is burdened by the past, but with a huge reason for it. However, it is better to see the substance of the world in this way – so that all its phenomena can be understood, rationalized, and we can live normally, looking forward to the future we expect. Maybe our shoulders are too weak for such expectations, and maybe, on the other hand, they have gained extraordinary strength by constantly trying to bring back more carefree (and possibly different) results to the past. Just when we celebrate the rebellion – because only this form of freedom is real – Amistad undergoes a change, our illusions of managing life are destroyed, and we are again in a dead end, with no more hope or strength for a new life. War. However, there is always a moment of “trusting the unpredictable” – life has taught us this – according to which the universal principles of justice will appear, overcoming evil and exalting good. It is because of this faith, which is not lacking even in such a torn man, that this book is a model of life, a tribute to a father and a beloved wife, so that every struggle has, or at least eventually, meaning. The reader is offered not one ending, but eleven different possible endings, with references to unusual characters that are interspersed throughout the novel, always with a sense of foreboding, in fact, that there is no ending. The Cinnamon Character is a thing of the most delicate sentiment, and the Diamond Man is its raison d’être.
