Saada: The Kharsh Afidhuq route in Saada is a must for frankincense caravans from Dhofar. The route connects the ports of Saada and Mirbat with frankincense production areas in the Hawjar region and other production areas behind the Samhan Mountains in the north.

The Kharsh Afidhuq route through rugged terrain is a testament to the dangers of frankincense transportation. Frankincense traders had to face various dangers to travel along this route to the frankincense production areas to collect this unique aromatic substance that was in great demand in all markets of ancient civilizations.

Jumaan bin Mohammed al Mishkhi, a resident of Sadar, said that extreme weather conditions had caused recent rockfalls on the Kharsh Afidhuq route, blocking the movement of people, livestock and goods, prompting residents to seek help from the Sawaed Al Khair volunteer team to repair and restore this important route. Once the main artery for transporting frankincense, the route is now used by climbers, military training camps and some local residents who move to the west side of Jabal Samhan in the autumn.
