According to Tabnak, Reuters wrote that following the actions of Spain, Ireland and Norway, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob announced today that the Slovenian government has agreed to recognize the independent state of Palestine.
Parliament should also approve the government’s decision in the coming days.
Although the measure’s implementation requires parliamentary approval, the ruling liberal coalition holds a majority in parliament and the upcoming vote is seen as a formality, according to the Associated Press.
Golub also called for an immediate end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas and the release of all prisoners.
According to Reuters, the Palestinian flag flew side by side with the Slovenian and European Union flags in front of the government building in the center of Ljubljana.
On May 28, Spain, Ireland and Norway recognized the State of Palestine.
Of the 27 EU member states, Sweden, Cyprus, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria have already recognised the State of Palestine. Malta has also announced it will soon do so.
Britain and Australia have said they are considering recognizing Palestine, but France says now is not the time to do so.
Germany, along with the United States, refuses to recognize Palestine, insisting a two-state solution can only be achieved through dialogue.
The Danish parliament also rejected a bill recognizing a Palestinian state on June 8.
