Bulgaria National Team Women’s Under-18 Volleyball Competition 1:0 Game (25:15) The European Championship final was played against Belgium at the “Polyvalent” Hall in Braz, Romania.
Today’s final was Bulgaria’s first appearance in a junior women’s final in 42 years. The last time Bulgarian women played in the European Under-20 Championships for gold was in 1982, when we won the silver medal.
Antonina Zetova’s women’s team finished second in the group with 6 wins and 1 loss. In the semi-finals, the young “lioness” defeated Italy 3:2, a game that was extremely dramatic.
Belgium also finished second in the group with one loss. In the semifinals, they eliminated Poland 3:1.
Game 1 (25:15):
The Bulgarian team started the first game very strongly, with three aces from Vyara Parapunova and a lob from Nicole Okoro giving Bulgaria a 4:0 lead. Belgium then called a timeout, but that didn’t help Jorik van der Velde’s team. Kalina Veneva’s technical release meant 5:0, and after Okoro’s counterattack and Denitsa Angelova’s powerful ace, the score difference widened to 8:1.
The Belgians tried to get back into the game, but after an attack by Lise Ver Helst and another strong counterattack by Nicole Okoro, the young “lionesses” were ahead 14:6. Our girls continued to dominate and after a great attack by Darina Naneva’s center, we were already ahead 18:9. Belgium scored three points after Denica Angelova’s serve went out and after successful counterattacks by Thea Radovich and Jenny Delu.
However, in the end, after double blocks from Nicole Okoro and dealer Dimana Ivanova, Bulgaria calmly ended the game with a score of 25:15.
