The Paris Olympics will open in less than two weeks. The Seine River flows through the city of Paris, where triathlons and open water swimming events are planned. Organizers have done a lot of work to make the river suitable for swimming.

Paris Deputy Mayor Pierre Labadin said the river water had been suitable for swimming for the past 12 days. Paris has had unusually heavy rains in recent weeks, but raw sewage has flowed into the Seine, exacerbating pollution levels in the river. “We hope the weather will improve, but we are not worried about organizing the competition, it will go on,” Labadin said.

France has spent around 1.4 billion euros over the past decade to improve the quality of its rivers.

The opening ceremony of the Olympics is scheduled to be held along the Seine River on July 26. The swimming marathon is scheduled for July 28, the men’s triathlon and women’s triathlon are scheduled for July 30 and 31 respectively, and the triathlon relay is scheduled for August 5.
