Neither cats nor books are bothered by your tiredness. They don’t care about the greatness of any of your successes, nor are they shocked by the severity of your failures. With them, you are yourself, without labels. They are there waiting for your return with or without achievements.

Of course, cats and books, when they want, will send you a silent call. Sometimes, just a slight meow and they are there, sometimes, they fall to the ground or move away from the bookshelf, open and shake their leaves so that you can see them with simple eye contact, and when they want to be petted or read, you can see them within reach, without imposing rules on you and asking for nothing in return.

Cats and books are living beings that move. They are guests that move silently through the room, filling the emptiness inside you with tenderness. They sit on your lap and fill your hands and soul. When you stroke them, they leave just as they came, without reproach or complaint.

There is nothing more sincere and lovely than books and cats. Whether you observe them up close or from a distance, they will respond with a cute expression that expects nothing from you. However, if you get close enough and settle in, give them space and take care of them and stay there, motionless. When they are willing, they will bring you surprises, good memories and unexpected ideas.

Cats and books are both beings that move and present themselves with grace. They sleep during the day and lead complicated lives at night. Loneliness often eats away at your heart, as if you were about to become food for a great white shark.

Do you want to learn more about nature, and especially your nature? Just bring a few cats and some books. From cats to books, you are how you express yourself. They all climb wherever they want to show you the path of life, what is truly important, and what is beyond the here and now.

One day you don’t touch them, another day you don’t, it doesn’t matter, you seek them out, you want to please them. Cats and books have their own rhythm and their own time. They are full of tenderness towards you only when they want to, letting you get close and caress them. Sometimes they flee from you, as if the mere touch of your skin is an insult. That’s how they are. They know you are right there with them. They know you in areas you don’t know, they make you more than you ever imagined, they give you countless reasons to be and exist in this world, even if in return you give them very little.

Is there a more selfless love? You provide your cats with food, water, a clean litter box, space, and toys so that they can live as pleasantly as possible within those confines. You give books their own territory on your shelves, on your nightstand, on your desk, and you care for them, protecting them from dust, insects, and moths that would pierce them and leave scars like bites that cannot be healed.

Sometimes you forget about the cats, you stop playing with them and nothing happens. If they are sad, they come closer, if they are angry, they move away. Often you stop reading and nothing happens. When you want to go back to them, they are there. As much as it pains you to admit it, both cats and books can survive without you.

Cats and books are magical, wonderful, mysterious beings: they are full of wisdom. They are people without restraints. They say that cats have seven lives. Books, life is infinite.
