On November 10, 1975, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution classifying Zionism as a form of racism. Israel can therefore be considered a racist state, whose establishment is seen as an extension of the European colonial ideology that prevailed in the 19th century. This ideology was characterized by the “carving of Africa”, “imperial expansion” in Asia, and the earlier discovery and colonization of the Americas, which involved the brutal “ethnic cleansing” of millions of indigenous peoples.
As I have argued in previous articles, racist Zionism employs similar methods and European racist thinking to expel or exterminate the Palestinian people in various ways. The extreme manifestation of Zionist racism emerged after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, as exemplified by the statements of Israeli officials.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called for the execution of Palestinian prisoners, advocating to shoot them instead of providing more food. He also suggested that instead of sending wheat to Gaza, explosives should be dropped as long as Hamas refuses to release prisoners. Defense Minister Yoav Galant called the Palestinians “human animals” and declared that they would be treated like human animals. Israeli Army Commander Ghassan Arian expressed the same view, saying that Hamas should be treated like human animals and promised to bring “hell” to them. General Hakri stressed that destruction is more important than precision strikes in military strikes. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to turn Gaza into a “deserted island.”
Senior Israeli officials use dehumanizing language to describe Palestinians, dehumanizing them, and justify violence through biblical narratives, such as 1 Samuel 15:3, which calls for the total annihilation of the Amalekites. These statements reflect genocidal intent, aimed not just at stopping the war, but at annihilating the Palestinian population.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights, Israel has dropped more than 25,000 tons of explosives on Gaza, the equivalent of two nuclear bombs, since the bombardment began on October 7. This has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians and extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. Despite calls for peace, Israel’s actions and rhetoric show that it refuses to coexist with the Palestinian people and instead wants to completely exterminate them, as it did with Native Americans throughout history.
Peace advocates fail to offer viable solutions and often recommend capitulation rather than addressing the root causes of the conflict. As I said in my last post, I support peace and negotiation, but the right to self-defense is essential when facing an enemy intent on destruction. Peace advocates need to offer plausible solutions rather than simply condemning defensive actions or ignoring the existential threats facing the Palestinian people. Without addressing these issues and accepting the status quo, Palestinians will be reduced to being “Indians in the Middle East.”
