In an effort to empower the community with important knowledge and skills, Miramar Deputy Mayor Alexander P. Davis, in partnership with the City of Miramar Fire Department, hosted the “Save a Life: Family Summer Edition” event.
This important public safety initiative will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Miramar Commission Chambers located at 2300 Civic Center Place.
The event is designed to educate and equip residents to effectively respond to emergencies. With preventable accidents and health crises on the rise, it is more important than ever for families to be prepared. The highly skilled Miramar Fire Department will host the event, ensuring attendees receive first-class training and advice.
Event Highlights:
- CPR: Learn the key steps of CPR to maintain circulation and oxygenation in an emergency until help arrives.
- Stop bleeding: Gain skills to control severe bleeding using tourniquets, hemostatic dressings, and direct pressure techniques.
- Signs of a stroke: Identify stroke symptoms using the FAST (Face, Arm, Voice, Time) method so you can act quickly and effectively.
- Drowning Prevention: Learn essential water safety tips, supervision strategies and rescue techniques to prevent drowning incidents.
In addition to these activities, the fire department will provide hands-on demonstrations of basic life-saving techniques. Topics covered include bicycle safety, hurricane preparedness and carbon monoxide poisoning prevention, all of which are critical to saving lives and reducing the severity of injuries in an emergency.
Attendees can also enjoy free pediatric and adult health screenings, helmet giveaways (while supplies last), window lock and alarm giveaways, and free swim lesson vouchers.
