The Little Ochi Seafood Festival will be canceled this weekend due to damage to the facility caused by Hurricane Beryl. The popular festival, which draws hundreds of patrons each year, was originally scheduled for Saturday.
Owner Evrol Christian said $5 million had been invested in hosting the event.
Christian revealed that Hurricane Beryl has caused more than $8 million in damage to the famous seafood restaurant at Alligator Pond in Manchester.
The Category 4 storm hit Jamaica South Coast A week ago, the fire destroyed homes and businesses and also destroyed the restaurant, which opened in 1989.
While restaurant operations have not completely ceased, it could be weeks before full operations resume.

The cancellation of the facility is a huge blow to this small farming community. “This is the heart of the Crocodile Pond. We employ over 23 people. We buy 80% of our catch from fishermen. Farmers down the road rely on us for their shallots and thyme, but most importantly, we have customers who rely on us for authentic seafood,” Christian said.
Despite this, Christian assured the community that the seafood restaurant will recover from the blow of Hurricane Beryl.
“Operations will resume. We will be back. It may take a little while for power and so on, but we will be back.”

Hurricane Beryl’s eyewall passed over Jamaica’s southern coast last Wednesday as a Category 4 storm, wreaking havoc in several parishes. Strong winds and heavy rains severely impacted infrastructure in the southern parishes of Manchester and St. Elizabeth.
Much of the southern part of the parish remained without power, internet and water. Schools such as Monroe College and Hampton School for Girls suffered extensive damage, as did other tourist attractions such as Lovers’ Cliff, Jacks Hotel and Lessings Boutique Hotel.
