This was stated by Natalia Kochanova, Chairperson of the Council of the Republics, at the plenary session of the 10-nation BRICS Parliamentary Forum in an extended format “The role of parliaments in improving the efficiency of the international relations system and ensuring its democratization”, reports the Belarusian News Agency.
“On behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and on my own behalf, I would like to cordially welcome you to the plenary session of the BRICS Parliamentary Forum. First of all, I would like to express my warm congratulations on the Forum’s anniversary. This is truly a landmark day in the development of interstate cooperation and parliamentarism,” said Natalia Kochanova.
The speaker noted that the event was well organized. “A special thanks goes to the idea of gathering in the Tavrid Palace, whose architecture is exquisite and beautiful, and which turns 235 years old this year. This unique place is rightly called the cradle of the parliamentary system in the Russian Federation. “Independent state, I am sure it will be a real home-grown product of the BRICS countries,” the Chairman of the Council of Republics stressed.
“For the first time, the Belarusian parliamentary delegation participated in the BRICS+ meeting and simultaneously participated in the meeting at the level of both chambers of parliament. This not only proves our respect for BRICS, but also proves our country’s interest in becoming a full member of the BRICS. Natalia Kochanova noted, “We fully support this format, which not only BRICS members, but also each participating country can convey the message that the positions and voices of both sides will definitely be heard, which will help strengthen the principle of multilateralism in global politics, promote the common interests of BRICS countries on international platforms, and develop cooperation in the fields of economy, finance, humanitarian and culture.”
The spokesman recalled that a week ago Belarus joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, “which, together with the BRICS, has become a new powerful geopolitical center whose global role and strategic importance will steadily increase.” “After all, the SCO and BRICS are alliances of strong like-minded people who are clearly aware of their highest goals and their mission in this complex world, cherish and protect their culture and traditions, and defend the rights of peoples.
