According to bathing water sampling in June, the water quality of the three natural swimming pools in Carniola, Bobovek, Sava Island and Kosorep is suitable for swimming.
Measurements showed that the Lubovščica River was over-polluted before it flowed into the Kokra River three times this year.
KRANJ – The Municipality of Kranj announced this week that for the first time this year, water from the natural baths in Kranj was sampled and the results showed that the quality of the bathing water meets the recommendations of the National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ), which monitors the quality of bathing water twice a year at three bathing sites: Čukova jama in Bobovko, Sava Baths on Sava Island and Kokra near Kosorep.
On June 18, the Kranj branch of the National Laboratory for Health, Environment and Food conducted the first sampling of bathing water. The samples were checked for the presence of two bacteria – enterococci and Escherichia coli (E. coli), which are indicators of fecal contamination, for which the NIJZ has established standards for assessing the suitability of bathing water in nature. The permissible values are a maximum of 1,000 E. coli and 400 enterococci per 100 ml. The sampling results showed that the water quality in all three bathing areas is suitable for bathing. The measured values for enterococci ranged from less than 10 (Čukova jama) to 80 (Sava), and the measured values for E. coli ranged from 100 (Čukova jama) to 450 (Sava). At the end of the swimming season, the IOC will conduct another microbiological test.
In addition, the Municipality of Kranj has for the third consecutive year monitored the quality of the bathing water in the Kočre Gorge, which has been protected as a national natural monument since February. The area of the natural monument stretches from the confluence of the Kočre and Rupovščica rivers to the Punget viewpoint. Monitoring is carried out monthly at four locations, and the results of the measurements are used to monitor the microbiological state of the water body in order to improve its ecological state and show that citizens are also often the cause of water pollution. Thus, this year’s measurements have already shown three times that the Rupovščica River is overly contaminated with E. coli before it flows into Kočre, and during the last sampling period, the permissible value of E. coli there was also exceeded (1,300) in June.
