Dangriga resident Lokenver Montero dies from injuries sustained in road accident

Three and a half days after hitting a cow, 26-year-old Lokenver Montero has died. The Dangriga resident died this morning after being injured in a traffic accident on Friday night. The accident was a pileup that occurred just before 11 p.m. on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway at Mile 4. The first victim of the accident was 19-year-old Kelvin Castellanos, who was driving a pickup truck heading to the town of Dangriga when he hit a cow in the middle of the road, according to police reports. The cow was thrown across the road and collided with the pickup truck driven by 29-year-old Gabriela Cocom. Five minutes later, the dead cow was hit by 26-year-old Lokenver Montero, who was riding a motorcycle. Montero lost control of his motorcycle and fell to the sidewalk, suffering head and body injuries. He was taken to the hospital, where he spent the weekend fighting for his life, but died early today. This death once again highlights a problem that affects residents in the south, where livestock are not protected and are allowed to roam the roads. The reports were confirmed by Alston McLaughlin, chairman of the Sarawi Village.

Montero was pronounced dead at 6:45 a.m. this morning at Carl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
