The General Assembly of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee (COK) today adopted the financial report for 2023, which includes the report of the independent auditor of financial operations and the report of the Supervisory Board.
The meeting also voted on the proposal for COK’s 2024 annual financial plan.
The “Report on Participation in the Winter Youth Olympic Games” and the “Report on Preparations for Participation in the Paris Olympic Games” were unanimously adopted.
The rules for promotion and advertising during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games were submitted and accepted.
The Strategy Implementation Report and COK Code of Ethics were also adopted.
The meeting discussed the date for the election conference and recommended that it be held at the end of October this year.
President Dusan Simonovic announced that the International Olympic Committee would exclude the World Boxing Association (IBA) from its membership.
The International Olympic Committee has asked the IOC to treat the Montenegrin Boxing Association equally.
The COK Board of Directors decided to conditionally suspend BSCG’s membership until the end of 2024, hoping that the issues will be resolved by then and it can become a full member again.
“We have made a difficult decision with the Montenegrin Boxing Association. We did this at the request of the IOC. As you know, the IOC has suspended the World Boxing Association (IBA). Having made this decision, they recommended that the National Olympic Committees do the same with their boxing federations. We thought about how to do it. We have a very good cooperation with the BSCG. We have to be careful because we have talented competitors in this sport and we expect good results from them. We will invite the representative of the association, Bojana Gojkovic, to the Paris Olympics. These are really the jewels of Montenegrin sports and they should be treated with care,” said Šimonović.
The COK president believes that the problems that have arisen will be resolved by early 2025.
“We will be patient and work hard to ensure that the boxing association remains in the COK system. By the end of this year, a boxing association should be formed that will be a member of and recognized by the IOC. We hope that our boxing organization will be included in this association so that we can continue our cooperation next year, as before, to the satisfaction of both of us.”
Simonovic stressed that he regrets the situation they find themselves in, but that the Montenegrin Boxing Association must make the right decision.
“If this does not happen, they will be permanently excluded from the IOC and then, if possible and desired, we will seek other forms of organization and participation in the work of our IOC. However, I am sure that things will not come to that point,” Simonovic concluded.
Simonovic announced that 19 athletes will represent Montenegro at the Olympics.
They are sailor Milivoj Dukic, boxer Boyana Gojkovic, athlete Darko Pesic, tennis player Danka Kovinic, swimmer Miloš Milenkovic and swimmer Giovanna Kulcza with the men’s water polo team.
“I hope we can be successful in Paris as well,” Simonovic said.
Minister of Sports and Youth Dragoslav Szczekic, who attended the conference at the invitation of Šimonović, said partnerships are the basis for all success.
“We can and must work together to make sports an integral part of the life of every citizen of Montenegro. In this regard, I would like to emphasize that we will be a reliable partner not only of COK but also of all other sports organizations in achieving the goals of their programs.”
He wished the Montenegrin delegation good results in the French sports arena.
“I am sure that Montenegro will be represented in the City of Lights in the best possible way and we will receive the most enthusiastic support,” Szczekic said.
Of the 54 delegates, 35 attended the meeting.
