On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Me Guy Hervé Kam’s lawyer met with the prosecutor to learn about the practical arrangements for the release of his client, as agreed. However, no firm information has been given about his release so far.

On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the lawyers met with the prosecutor on the side of the military court to discuss the practical conditions for the release of Me Guy Hervé Kam. But at the end of the meeting with the prosecutor, they did not win their case. “We have learned that the practical conditions for his release have not yet been met… I can’t give you more details because only they know what practical conditions they are preparing… They have scheduled another meeting tomorrow at 9 am,” said Me Ambroise Farama.

As agreed, his lawyers responded to the prosecutor’s call this Wednesday, July 10, 2024. After an hour of waiting, they finally retreated to the lawyer’s house. There, I Paul Kéré explained to us that they had not been received. “When we arrived at the military court, the investigating judge was not there. He was free only this afternoon and therefore could not present to us the essence of the model he himself had decided. The president of the military court did not want to receive us, and even the military prosecutor was missing, so we were in an unmanageable deadlock,” he declared.

“When such a decision is made, the detainee is released the same day,” Me Ambroise Farama

The president of the Bar Association still sided with the military court. Finally, at 11:25 a.m., he would meet his colleagues at the lawyer’s house. When asked if there was anything new, he would answer us: “Nothing for the time being, I will be back between 4 and 5 p.m.”

‘There are a lot of supporters of transition’

Commenting on the Guy Kam incident, Me Ambroise Farama made it clear on Tuesday, July 9, 2024: “For us, the ruthlessness towards his person is obvious”. For his part, Me Paul Kéré believes that the legal rules in this case were not respected, which could bring shame to the transition, as it should be. “The supporters of the lawyers’ transition are many! Including me. There are many of us! But this sympathy is worth it because the legal rules are respected. If the legal rules are not respected, we have to say: we do not agree with what is happening”, he suggested.
