The Israeli airstrike killed 29 Palestinians who had taken shelter in tents in front of a school in the town of Abasan near Khan Younis in southern Gaza, the government media office reported.

The attack was the fourth in four days for Israel to target school buildings used as shelters in Gaza and came after Israel issued new mass evacuation orders for Khan Younis and parts of Gaza City, forcing tens of thousands to flee and leading to the closure of schools and three key hospitals.

EU foreign policy chief calls for accountability

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell reacted to reports that “dozens” of people were killed in the Israeli military bombing of a “boarding school in Khan Younis”, calling for those responsible to be held accountable.

The EU’s foreign policy chief posted on X asking: “How long will innocent civilians bear the brunt of this conflict?”

Borrell also reiterated his call for a ceasefire, the release of prisoners and the provision of humanitarian aid.

At least 29 people were killed in the recent attack on a school in Khan Yunis

At least 29 Palestinians, mostly women and children, were killed in an attack near the al-Awda school in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, the Gaza government’s media office said.

“The latest carnage comes after Israeli forces raided six more camps for displaced persons in the central area (of Gaza), bringing the total number of deaths in the past few hours to at least 60,” the press office said in a statement.

The report added that the attack came as Israeli forces forced several hospitals to suspend services, causing Gaza’s crumbling health sector to continue to collapse.
