The 18-year-old suspect has a lengthy criminal record.
The Pirca District Court has detained an 18-year-old man on suspicion of killing and raping a 15-year-old girl in Valkaikoski on Friday night.
He was remanded in custody on suspicion of manslaughter and aggravated child rape after a 15-year-old girl was found dead in woods near her home in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The initial homicide charge is usually manslaughter, which prosecutors will later upgrade to murder or downgrade to manslaughter.
The man appeared in court dressed in black and Crocs, and covered his face with a white T-shirt during the brief time that photographers were allowed to take pictures.
Police said the suspect has not yet commented on the charges against him. There is no indication that the suspect and the victim knew each other before.
On Tuesday, the tabloid reported that earlier this spring the man posted fantasies of strangling women on the popular Ylilauta message board, known as Finland’s version of 4Chan.
He was questioned by police over the posts but released without charge.
The suspect was sentenced to 18 months’ suspended sentence in 2022 for multiple crimes including robbery, and was ordered to pay more than 35,000 euros in compensation.
He was also found guilty of possessing an article or substance causing harm to another person as a child, being drunk as a child, disobeying a police officer as a child, and robbery as a child. He was sentenced to 90 days of income-linked fines, which could be as much as €540 depending on his income.
