Madagascar affirms its cultural unity by participating in the 9th Pan-Africanist Congress, to be held in Lomé, Togo, from October 29 to November 2, 2024. Last Saturday, a virtual preparatory meeting for the next Congress was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Anosi.
The importance of language, a symbol of sovereignty
In a press release, Madagascar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rasata Rafaravavitafika, welcomed the adoption of the Decade of African Roots and the African Diaspora, 2015-2024. The Minister stressed the importance of each country preserving its language as a symbol of unity and national culture.

Economic issues aside, the national unity achieved through this unique heritage and identity perfectly embodies the values of Pan-Africanism. The 2024 edition is dedicated to unity and solidarity among African countries and people of African descent.
To meet current challenges, Pan-Africanism must strengthen ties among African countries and promote a community of shared future. In addition, African countries must play a greater role in these institutions, ensure fair representation, and actively participate in global governance with multilateral institutions such as the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank.
In order to achieve sustainable and inclusive development, Pan-Africanism must also emphasize the importance of innovative development of the resources of African countries and Madagascar.
The Pan-African Congress (first in 1900) is an opportunity to reflect on the political, cultural, social and societal future of the participating countries. Every firm sovereign (independent) state advocates for equal economic opportunities and demands respect for human rights in an unstable world.
Remember, Madagascar is a full member of the African Union and should play a vital geopolitical role in international trade flows.
