Hotel Indigo, part of InterContinental Hotels Group & Resorts (IHG), will open a new hotel in Palau by the end of 2024

According to a press release from IHG, the hotel will be located in Malakal.

The new 200-room Hotel Indigo Palau will offer “lagoon views and thriving marine life, with most rooms offering stunning ocean views,” according to a news release.

The hotel will have facilities such as a resort centre, gymnasium and function rooms that can accommodate up to 50 people.

Hotel Indigo is a part of InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. IHG is a British and American luxury hotel brand with more than 200 hotels worldwide.

Palau’s tourism industry has been maintaining strong growth momentum. According to the latest data released by the Palau Visitors Bureau, Palau received a total of 4,475 tourists in May 2024. This is a 2% increase compared to April 2024 and a huge 78% increase compared to May 2023.

China remains the main source of inbound tourists, accounting for 33% of the total number of tourists, followed by Taiwan, accounting for 21%, and the United States and Canada together accounting for 19%.

The European market had a significant impact, accounting for 11% of total inbound tourists, the highest this year. Japanese tourists accounted for 8% of total tourists, down from the peak in March.

South Korea had by far the lowest number of monthly inbound tourists, accounting for just 1%, while other countries accounted for 8% of total inbound tourists. (By Bernadette Carreon)
