The Jassids are already a threat to cotton production in Mali at the start of the 2024 cotton season. The cotton project of the Rural Economic Research Institute (IER) has reported the presence of Jassids in its Sikasso research plot. In addition, the monitoring mission of the local director of agricultural production has been informed of Jassid attacks in the Kadiolo region, where more than 500 hectares have been treated. As a reminder, the Kadiolo region was the epicenter of the Jassids in 2022, and this year they are back again, and we are already worried.
In order to avoid a drop in cotton production like in 2022, the CMDT has sent a request for exemption (authorization) to the State since January and February 2024, but has not received a response. In order to speed up the authorization process, the Director of Agricultural Production, Moro DIAKITE, communicated only with the four general managers of the subsidiaries within a strict confidentiality framework to prepare for a possible fact-finding mission to the subsidiaries.
This communication is purely technical and has nothing to do with the Chief Executive Officer and is intended to expedite the signing of the derogation order (authorization). As a courtesy, we use this concept at the instruction of the Chief Executive Officer to attach importance to this information. Therefore, the Chief Executive Officer is not responsible for the content of the message sent to the Chief Administrator.

All these actions constitute a crime and are intended solely to harm the CMDT. The Director of Agricultural Production, Moro DIAKITE, reserves the right to file a complaint against the author and his accomplices from Monday, July 8, 2024.
The intended purpose of the communication with the Chief Administrator is to make anti-Jasid products available as quickly as possible at the producer level.
These anti-jasmine products are recommended by a sub-regional study (PRPICA) for use in eight cotton-growing countries in West and Central Africa (Benin, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Chad, Togo and Mali) from 2023. These products are also used around the world for the control of jasmine in cotton and market gardens. With the exception of Mali and the Jassid family, which already appear in the program, all other seven countries have been authorized for 2024/2025.
For your convenience, we have provided a technical sheet and the IER Cotton Program’s alert regarding the early appearance of jasmine this year.
Being a defender of producers and preventing them from producing good products on time is an incomprehensible retrenchment. Critics of the CMDT must have helped predict the invasion of Jassides this year, which is the basis for a 50% drop in cotton production in the sub-region in 2022.
Having a product that works and maintaining Mali’s position as the leader in cotton in Africa and tenth in the world is our way of helping Mali, with the transitional president ensuring the sovereignty of the country, not an act of treason against anyone.
