UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has directly threatened Italian Sports Minister Andrea Abdi, saying he will exclude Italian teams from international competitions. La Repubblica uncovered the background behind Ceferin’s threat, learning that the Italian Parliament’s Legal Committee is discussing amendments to the Italian Sports Code that would grant Serie A clubs complete independence from the federation and bypass the stage of filing a lawsuit with the Lazio Administrative Court on matters of sporting justice.
That way they could solve everything themselves, rendering the federation useless. For this, Ceferin has reportedly made this clear in his speech to the Italian ministers. “If the legal text remains like this, we will have to exclude Italian teams from the Euros. With these words he explained that this part of the law is no longer discussed in the Italian Parliament.
