Muscat: The Ministry of Health (MoH) launched the Medical Examination Health Screening Service (MFES) as an electronic certification system for medical reports of expatriates at COMEX 2024 held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) under the chairmanship of the Minister of Health, Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti.
Therefore, non-residents can register for health check-up online through MFES and registration services will also be provided through Sanad offices. Documents can also be verified through the Wafid platform.
MFES aims to simplify the process and ensure the integrity of the medical examination. Visa procedures can also be completed through the Royal Oman Police (ROP) website. The Ministry of Health said that MFES will ensure better service while saving time, and the service will help prevent the forgery of certificates.
Under the new system, there is no need to undergo X-rays. Instead, an Iqra test should be completed, which falls under the category of blood tests. Also, traditionally, the fingerprints and photographs of the candidates were uploaded using the respective software of the relevant visa medical institution. However, with MFES, this can now be uploaded directly to the Ministry of Health.
Speaking to Al-Monitor, Dr. Mayab Beri of the Ruwehani Clinic, which is responsible for visa medical examinations, said that since Tuesday, May 27, the process of visa medical examinations for foreigners has changed and that following the process will help the clinic save time and effort.
“As per the new system, expatriates need to have a PKI-enabled SIM card, which can be obtained from their respective telecom operators and needs to be activated at the Sanad office and linked with the residency card, which is a one-time activity,” he said.
Once activated, expatriates will no longer need to visit Sanad offices to register for medical check-ups as this can be done online, including payment for the service. “The rest of the procedures remain the same, including the check-up at a medical centre,” said another leading clinic providing visa medical services.
Oman requires a medical examination at the time of visa application in accordance with Gulf Health Council standards to assess the health of expatriates and ensure they are fit to work and have no communicable diseases.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) had earlier launched a self-registration service for expatriates, who are required to undergo a health checkup when renewing their visas.
This service was launched to allow foreigners and companies to easily obtain medical examination results for renewal of residence or obtaining a residence card from the Civil Affairs Service Center, as well as medical examination results when obtaining a visa for the first time or renewing a visa.
The authority said that through this online service, it will ensure greater transparency, eliminate falsified reports, and save time and effort in issuing medical reports through an electronic link with the Royal Oman Police.
