Special Prize;
The canoeing association also banned the media from discussing the issue.
The Hungarian Kayak and Canoe Association announced on its Facebook page that we would like to inform the sports-loving public that the tensions that had arisen in the sport in recent days have come to a standstill thanks to the cooperation of all parties.
According to the sources, Ferenc Sipes and his association, the Budapest Honvéd Sports Association, sent a letter to the Hungarian Canoe and Kayak Association, addressed to Danuta Kozak, which read:
“If our head coach has offended you or your coach personally or professionally, we ask for your forgiveness and in the future we will do our best to help the women’s canoe team prepare for the Olympics in peace.”
The answer comes from six-time Olympic champion Danuta Kozak:
“Well, from our side, this way we can continue to cooperate.”
“Taking into account the above statements, the Disciplinary Committee of the Hungarian Canoeing Association cancelled the decision to suspend further coaching activities and imposed sports disciplinary sanctions on Ferenc Sipes, suspending the probation period. According to this decision, we consider the matter closed and we do not want to comment further,” the association wrote in the post, while asking the media not to contact those involved.
As our newspaper also reports, the Hungarian Canoe and Kayak Association has suspended Ferenc Sipes, the coach of the Budapest Honvéd SE team, against whom Danuta Kozak, the Hungarian female canoeist with the most Olympic gold medals, accused him of verbal harassment in a lengthy Facebook post last Wednesday.
The six-time Olympic champion, fifteen-time world champion and seventeen-time European champion Hungarian canoeist wrote that Ferenc Sipes once approached him in a state of deep influence, while he was sitting almost naked on the kneading bench. In a vulnerable position, he had to endure the insults of his coach – “like a slave drooling in an underground tunnel for a long time” – because he could not even raise his head on the kneading bench, as he was located in the groove created for it. “He began to verbally harass and insult me in various ways.
This is not the first conflict between Ferenc Sipes and Danuta Kozak. Back in 2012, Kozak, then a two-time gold medalist from London, caused a big stir when he left Honved and switched to Üpest. At Honved, Ferenc Sipes was his coach; at Üpest, he was coached by his then-fiance Béla Somogyi, whom he later married and has two children with. – I understand Dana’s decision, because if she could reach the same level of canoeing as her fiance Béco, one competition would bring the family twice as much money. If this is possible, why don’t they do it? ” Tsipes told Nemzeti Sport about the change of clubs, assuming that it was only for financial reasons.
Ferenc Sipes has already joined Kozak Danuta once, since changing clubs 12 years ago
