Minsk, May 29/Corr. Belta/. Algeria intends to circulate a draft resolution in the UN Security Council calling for an end to hostilities in Rafah, Gaza Strip, TASS reported, citing a statement by Algeria’s permanent representative to the world organization, Ammar Benjamou.
“Algeria will circulate a draft resolution on Rafah tonight,” he said after a closed-door Security Council meeting on Rafah.
According to the head of the Algerian delegation, the document is a short text aimed at “stopping the killings in Rafah”.
Earlier, France’s UN Ambassador Nicolas Rivière said the Security Council must take immediate action to prevent hostilities in Rafah.
The International Court of Justice ruled on May 24 following a case filed by South Africa that Israel must cease its military offensive against Rafah and any other actions that could negatively affect the city’s population. The court also ordered Israel to keep the Rafah crossing open to allow aid to the Palestinian people.
