Since Thursday, July 4, 2024, the new international remittance service has been operational thanks to the partnership between Orange Money Burkina Faso and Terrapay, a company specialized in international money transfers. Ecobank Burkina is the sponsor of the monetary authority’s project to receive international money transfers through the Orange Money electronic wallet. This new service allows expatriates to comfort their families by sending remittances.
The dynamics of the financial sector and the increasingly diverse needs of the population have led the players in the financial system to work together to develop solutions that meet customer expectations. Orange Money Burkina Faso and Ecobank Burkina Faso have established a partnership in Ouagadougou, Thursday, July 4, 2024. The partnership was announced with the launch of a new international remittance service. “From a regulatory point of view, Orange Money must work with a bank to carry out international money transfers. Our preferred partner is Ecobank. That is why the bank supports us today,” said Alimata Touré, General Manager of Orange Money Burkina Faso.
The implementation of this service reflects Orange Money’s firm commitment to facilitate financial transactions for the Burkinabe diaspora, thus contributing to the economic development of our country. Customers can now deposit funds directly into their Orange Money Burkina accounts from 205 countries including the United States, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, etc. The technical partner is Terrapay, a company specialized in international money transfers. After thanking the DGE team, Ms Touré encouraged customers to take advantage of this new service and discover its many advantages for themselves.
Noellie Cécile Tiendrébéogo, General Manager of Ecobank Burkina Faso, did not hide her satisfaction after signing the partnership. “Today, I am delighted to participate in the signing of the agreement between Orange Money Burkina Faso and Terrapay. In addition to signing the agreement, I am happy that through our partnership with Orange Money we can offer new facilities to our customers,” said Ms. Tiendrébéogo.
Specifically, what role does the bank play in this project? In response to this concern, the General Manager said that Ecobank is the sponsor of the monetary authorities’ project to receive international transfers on the Orange Money electronic wallet. Therefore, it ensures that all transfers are carried out in accordance with the rules of the existing technology.
“It’s a fundamental question. Receiving money is; yes, making it easy for customers in 205 countries to send money to Burkina Faso. But it has to be done according to the rules of art. We also respect the regulations. That’s the role that Ecobank plays,” she pointed out. Ms. Tiendrébéogo said that this international money collection service is an innovation because usually, the money we receive is picked up at institutions such as Western Union or Ria. “Today, your loved one sends you money and you can receive it directly in your electronic wallet for free,” she said.
