Police in Nyeri and Laikipia counties have made significant progress in their investigation into the recent burglary and arson incident at Chieni Supermarket. They have recovered a large amount of stolen items and arrested several suspects who were in possession of the items.

The recycled items include washing machines, refrigerators, water dispensers, bicycles, kitchen utensils, food, clothing and other items.

In Nanyuki, Chris Nduni Wamuhu, 24, was arrested at a rented house having stolen items including a Hisense fridge, Uken water dispenser, coffee cups, teaspoons, fondue plates and luminarc plates.

Police confirmed Wamuhu’s involvement after a circulated mobile phone recording showed him taking part in the supermarket theft.

Near the Kengeles Club in Nanyuki, police found 30-year-old Moses Njuguna Gachwe with 22 pairs of khaki pants, nine T-shirts, 24 pairs of briefs (boxers) and sandals, all stolen during the riot.

At another location in the Asian area of ​​Nanyuki suburb, Charles Kariri Mubi, 35, was arrested with a small bicycle. Also, John Ndilangu Ndiritu, 41, was found with six thermos bottles, a shopping cart, an LG fridge and several luminarc plates and cups.

“At present, the police have arrested several suspects and recovered more stolen goods. The police are continuing to investigate to catch other identifiable arsonists and persons who are missing with stolen goods.” DCI reported.
