4 July 2024 (Geneva) – The United Nations-appointed expert on human rights in Sudan, Radjuan Noisse, will visit Port Sudan from 7 to 11 July to assess the human rights situation amid the ongoing conflict. This is his first visit since the outbreak of hostilities.
While in Port Sudan, Noyesser will engage with various stakeholders, including Sudanese authorities, UN agencies, humanitarian partners and civil society organizations. He will also make a concerted effort to engage with displaced communities to understand their experiences first-hand.
The findings of Neuser’s visit will contribute to the development of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights’ annual report on the human rights situation in Sudan, which will be submitted to the Human Rights Council in March 2025.
Noisse was appointed in December 2022 and had previously visited Sudan in February 2023 before the conflict broke out. This visit is his second official visit to the country as a UN-designated expert.
The Tunisian diplomat replaces Senegalese Adama Dieng, who resigned in October 2022.
Following the bloody violence of the coup on October 25, 2021, the UN Human Rights Council asked the High Commissioner to designate an expert on human rights in Sudan.
