The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Academician Dragan Djordje, Speaker of the Croatian National Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Maria Buhać, Chairman of the Government of Herzegovina-Neretva County, and Don Nikola Menard, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mostar-Duvanj and Trebinje-Mirka.
“The Faculty of Theology and the Catechism School has a rich and long tradition in education. Over the years it has earned a reputation as an institution providing quality education. On the other hand, the University of Mostar is one of the most important public educational institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an international and worldwide reputation and offers a wide range of academic programs. By merging these two institutions, we are opening up new horizons in social-spiritual and theological education”, says Rector Tomić.
According to the agreement, TKIM became a full member of the University of Mostar, ensuring that TKIM teachers and students were integrated into the university system with equal rights and obligations.
“The presence of theology and theological reflection in public universities in developed democracies is itself clear and understandable. In most European countries, Catholic schools are the cradle of modern universities. I firmly believe that the Mostar Faculty of Theology and Catechumenate will justify its place in the family of Mostar universities”, said Bishop Petar Palić.
The contract provides that TKIM has the right to implement joint study projects with other university members, participate in research projects and exchange programs, and use the university’s information and library systems. In addition, TKIM retains the autonomy to adopt its statutes and other general acts and is obliged to comply with relevant laws.
The diploma that students receive upon completion of their studies will be issued by the University of Mostar and signed by the Rector of the University and the Dean/Head of TKIM, respecting the specifics of the institute.
The agreement is an important step towards strengthening cooperation between the University of Mostar and the Dioceses of Mostar-Duvanj and Trebinje-Mka, ensuring a stable and legally regulated position for the Faculty of Theology and Catechumenate in the academic world.
