The “Lietkabel” fans of the “X-Department” in Panevezh continued their mission – to renovate as many basketball boards as possible in the courtyards of apartment buildings, aiming to cultivate a younger generation of orange ball lovers. This time, an unexpected guest joined the initiative – Gabrielius Maldūnas, a long-time player of “7bet-Lietkabelis”, who tested the strength of the basketball hoops there.
Appearing in the courtyard of an apartment building on Tulpių Street, a group of basketball fans dressed in “Lietkabelis” gear, after the end of the basketball season, gathered again for the noble purpose of refurbishing a worn-out basketball backboard. Court. Instead, she was left with something.
Aurim Urbonas, head of the “X Sector” association that unites fans of the “7bet-Lietkabelis” team, said that the rule that “a group of people can overturn mountains” has been proven again.
“We have a huge fan base. As I said before, the more people there are, the more work we can do together. Not only to come to the arena to cheer for the team, but also to contribute to charities and meaningful events, which we have been successfully doing for some time,” said A. Urbonas.
A. Urbonas himself spent his childhood running with friends on basketball courts from morning till night – almost until dark. At that time, orange ball virus epidemics occurred almost every decade.
“Now these places have either become parking lots or have decayed and lost their immediate significance. Sports and games are no longer possible in them. Since we are basketball fans, we thought why not renovate those old basketball courts?” said A. Urbonas.
A. Urbons says that there is still a lot of good work to be done in the future – the association is constantly contacted by people from Panevėžys who want to see the growing generation taking the ball into their own hands.
After all, everything is based on money.
“Department X” calls for businessmen and companies willing to contribute to meaningful activities while helping to develop basketball talents.
Gabrielius Mardunas, the midfielder of “7bet-Lietkabelis” and the ambassador of Panevěžská Basketball, who came here, tested the strength of the new hanging basket on the court. The basketball player from Panevěžská said that for him personally, such an initiative of basketball fans is very happy and meaningful.
“We can see the state of the basketball courts in Panevěž. The Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) has been lacking professional basketball players from Panevěž for many years. Hopefully, such actions will encourage young people to improve”, G. Maldūnas told Sekundei.
Gabrielius and his wife Edita had long considered doing something similar — starting with dunking nearly every day on the basketball court in the apartment building where he grew up.
“When I saw that X Sector fans had done this a few months ago before us, I contacted them personally and said I wanted to join. It’s great that our fans organize events like this. This is very important for the city of Panevėžys and its young people. I hope that everyone will continue to contribute to good deeds and improve our city together”, says G. Maldūnas.
