In response to the generous invitation extended by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the members of the Democratic Group political organization to participate in the meeting scheduled to be held in Cairo on July 6 and 7 of this year to discuss solutions to the Sudan crisis and its humanitarian, political and security paths, the Democratic Group wishes to explain the following:
The Democratic Group highly appreciates Egypt’s efforts to achieve peace and stability in Sudan and to find a comprehensive solution to the Sudanese crisis. Therefore, the Democratic Group confirms that its organization has accepted the invitation to participate in these meetings because it believes in the importance of dialogue to achieve peace and stability in Sudan.
The group affirms that, according to the agreement reached in Addis Ababa between the Rapid Support Militia and its declared allies, the Coordination of Civilian Forces (Taqaddum) is its political front and, therefore, its partner in all the heinous crimes committed by the group. Dear, the militias target Sudanese civilians around the clock. In this context, it is premature to meet them directly. The Democratic Group recalls that the same political forces that today are allied with the Rapid Support Militia have previously rejected the Egyptian government’s call to resolve the Sudanese crisis and the principle of a comprehensive dialogue and sitting together with all Sudanese political and civil organizations for a dialogue that excludes no one. It must disengage from the Rapid Support Militia and declare its alliance with it, condemning its crimes and violations against the Sudanese people, and then respect the principles of inclusion, acceptance of others, as well as patriotism and human rights values.
The Democratic Group will meet with the Charter Forces and other political forces allied with it on July 5 to reach a unified final position on the participation process.
The Democratic Group reaffirms its commitment to working to end the militia rebellion and achieve democratic transition in Sudan and hopes that Egypt’s efforts will lead to practical and positive steps that will contribute to achieving lasting peace in Sudan and alleviating the suffering of our people.
