Zoran Vorotović, a former football player for Sutjeska, Budućnosti, Crvena zvezda and Spartak, died yesterday at the age of 67 after a long and serious illness.
His hometown club Sutjeska also said goodbye to Vorotovici, where he took his first steps in football and established himself as a very talented youngster in the then Yugoslav football scene.
In 1975, Sutjeska Vorotovic won the Yugoslav Youth Championship title and heralded a brilliant career that would have been even more impressive if a number of objective and subjective circumstances had not prevented him from doing so.
Yet, despite this, Vorotovic left an indelible mark on Sutjeska and the club he played for, as well as on Yugoslav football…
“Former Blues player Zoran-Zoja Volotovic has left us. Zoja was born on August 12, 1958. year. He grew up in Glibavac and played in the youth section of our club under the supervision of Milan’s multigenerational founder Mika Zirojevic. After winning the title of Yugoslav Youth Champion, Zoran-Zoja Volotovic and Momir-Miko Bakrać joined Olimpia Ljubljana without the club’s permission, eager for fame and the light of the big city. Sutjeska did not want to give up on the two football gems who would later have great careers, the first would play for Red Star and the second would play for Hajduk in Split. One of the much-publicized events in Yugoslav football would end with our club’s permission to join Buduk-Nost in the Titograd First League. At Buduk-Nost, Zoja spent nine years, starting with head coach Dragutin Spasojevic, becoming one of the best left-backs in Yugoslavia and becoming a legend at the club. He played one season for Red Star, three for Turkish side Sarir and ended his career with Sparta Subotica in 1991. Zoran Vorotović, a great footballer and one of the most beautiful Montenegrins of his time, experienced a tragedy in his life in 2001 after a terrible traffic accident. From then until his death, he was almost motionless, bedridden, and unfortunately, abandoned and forgotten. “FK Sutjeska expresses its sincere condolences to his family and sends its last regards to the once talented young man who left the stadium near Bistrica for the wide world. May his soul rest in peace in heaven,” the Nikšić club announced.
