Although he predicted, Military SpiritToday, Lucius Banda finally rested with honor and dignity in Sosola village in Baraka with his family. Meanwhile, the UTM party also paid tribute to President Lazarus Chakwera for his compassionate care for the fallen “soldier” during his three years of illness and even after his death.

At 15:15 sharp, Lucius disappeared from the face of the earth forever, leaving behind a beautiful memory in 20 music albums that carry the voices of hope, encouragement, love, rebuke and happiness. The thousands of people who walked his last mile with him can attest to this, not to mention the countless tributes that describe why he lived and what he will be remembered for.
In separate tributes, Lucius’ sons Johnny and Mapiri Banda and UTM secretary general Patricia Kalyati all spoke out, saying Lucius was a hero who died a heroic death and deserved respect, a powerful symbol of his wonderful life and the deep respect he had for the thousands of people who came to witness his final journey.
President Chakwera, through the Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Richard Chimwendo, said the death of Lucius was painful and regrettable.

Chakwera, who appointed Lucius as the Presidential Adviser on Youth and the Arts, stressed that he would not cut off his hand to the fallen “soldier”. He said government would continue to extend support to the family of the late Lucius Banda, including his elder brother Paul.
“He dedicated his life to the arts. The family should rest assured that the president will not abandon you. Just as he supported him during the three years of his illness, he will continue to do so,” he said.
In their parting words to their father, Jonny and Mapiri praised their “hero” as the greatest man who ever lived, but before concluding their moving tributes, they both expressed their gratitude to Chakwera for the unconditional and undying love he had given their father while he was alive.
Johnny and Mapiri took the time to recount incidents that exemplified the Head of State’s love and care for the soldier, including sending him to a renowned hospital outside Malawi for specialized medical attention.
“I want to especially thank His Excellency the President, the President of the country, government officials, friends and family who have held our hands during his illness. Please accept our heartfelt blessings. We thank you!” Johnny clapped and saluted the President. “You love this man, we know it, kuti mmawakonda.”
UTM party general secretary Patricia Kaliati also echoed the sons’ gratitude, acknowledging that President Chakwera not only recognized Lucius Banda’s merits by appointing him as Youth and Arts Assistant, but also ensured that he received the best medical care and support during his illness.
Kaliati observed that the President took the trouble to send his minister to visit him in the hospital.
