CEBU CITY, Philippines – Former world title challenger Arthur “The King” Villanueva is scheduled to have a bounce-back fight on July 12 at the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Villanueva, 35, remained in the United States after being defeated by American prospect Elijah Pierce by technical knockout at the same venue in March.

Instead of flying back to the Philippines, Villanueva stayed in the United States, training at MP Promotions’ top man Sean Gibbons’ Knuckleheads Boxing Gym in Las Vegas.

Four months later, former ALA Boxing Kingpin Villanueva found American Saul Sanchez as his opponent in an overtime boxing match.

Villanueva and Sanchez will face off in an eight-round bout at bantamweight.

Prior to his loss to Pierce, Villanueva had won three straight fights, during which he won the World Boxing Association (WBA) South Asian Bantamweight title.

Although Villanueva suffered a TKO defeat against Pierce, he still holds an impressive record of 35 wins, 20 of which were by knockout, 5 by defeat, and 1 by draw.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Sanchez, known as “The Beast,” has a record of 20 wins and 3 losses, including 12 knockouts. He was also a world title challenger, but lost the WBO world bantamweight title to Australian boxing star Jason Moloney by majority decision last January.

Sanchez is no stranger to fighting Filipino opponents. In 2023, he fought RV De Niga in Japan and won by unanimous decision.
