Joshua Chisa Mbele, a well-known personality, has posted on Facebook about the end of the official mourning period for the late Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC).The 21-day morning mourning period announced by President Lazarus Chakwera on June 11 will end this Monday (July 1).
Mbele said that while the pain and anxiety caused by SKC’s death was limitless, he believed that it was time to respond to the “rude and opportunistic behaviour” displayed by some people who fabricated and spread conspiracy theories and insulted innocent people.
Mbele revealed that despite silently mourning SKC, he was also extremely painful to see the “insults and accusations” directed at the current president, Lazarus Chakwera. He pointed out that although the former CPM regime was known as a “killing machine”, the current generation should not be labeled as similarly murderous because those “killing champions are no longer there”.
Importantly, Mbele shared his personal experience with the current government, saying he was arrested three times and severely beaten, with officials eager to report that they had “dealt with Joshua”. However, Mbele recalled that when he met President Chakwera face to face, the President apologized on behalf of the government for what had happened. Mbele said this brought tears to his eyes.
Mbele stressed the importance of resilience, called for understanding, acceptance of apologies and reconciliation, and urged people not to “live in hatred and bitterness”. On the investigation into the plane crash that killed SKC, Mbele made it clear that it was a pure accident and that Chakwera had nothing to do with it, as the current president was “more outraged” by the incident.
Mbele concluded by saying he was confused by the “numerous conspiracy theories” and “different versions of lies” that some Malawians had “made up” about SKC’s death.
