“I’m still in the race, I’m the leader of the Democratic Party. No one is going to kick me out,” Biden said, accusing his close associates of spreading the accusations in comments on the X social network.

Biden and U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance at a Democratic National Committee meeting, according to people familiar with the matter who asked not to be named because the matter is private.

AP sources said the speech was inspirational, emphasizing the stakes of the election and that Biden will rise after his fall.

It was just one of many efforts by the president and his closest aides to calm the situation on Capitol Hill and among Democrats in the party who were unhappy with the White House and Biden aides’ explanation for the president’s poor performance in the debate with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Many were also frustrated that Biden had not responded to concerns about the debate at all, and that continuing to run put them in a difficult position.
