In a move to motivate students sitting for the Malawi Secondary School Certificate Examination, Private Schools Association of Malawi (PRISAM) president Ernest Kaonga has pledged K1 million bonuses to the top six students.
He said there were three girls and three boys who would each receive K1 million.
Kawenga said PRISAM believed that motivation was one of the factors that encouraged students to study hard.
“We need to motivate these students because our goal is to see them score high in the examinations. As Prisam chairman, I have allocated K6 million for the six students who will excel in the examinations,” Kaonga said.
Kaonga, the managing director of Maranatha Academy, stressed that the scholarship is available to both private and public school students.
“Whether you’re from a public school or a private school, what I look for is a top six who smiles about their job,” he said.
Kaonga also said that he did this out of his love for education and to cooperate with the government’s efforts to promote education.
This is not the first time Kaonga has provided exam funding to students.
In the same year, he promised that students sitting for the JCE examination would also be rewarded.
Previously, he had awarded medals to MSCE, PSLCE students, including scholarships to students from marginalized communities.
