On Tuesday evening, police arrested a 44-year-old man from the village of Zeeland after a wild pursuit in Eikenlaan, Schaijk. Police saw the suspect driving a white van with fake license plates on the N324 near Schaijk at around 2:30 in the evening. He saw the stop sign, but the highway pirate wasn’t having it, so he took off.

The police launched a pursuit, but it did not last long as the man lost control of the car on Eikenlaan in Scheik, causing the van to crash into a lamppost. The Mercedes bus sustained serious damage to the front and the lamppost was toppled.

The suspect then took off running and fled into a cornfield, however he soon gave up and lay on the ground before police arrested him.

Used cocaine
Not only did the vehicle’s license plate appear to be fake, but the van was also reported stolen. The driver also tested positive for cocaine.

The man could face a range of fines for dangerous driving, drink driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Court Cases
After his wild ride, the highway pirate was transferred to a prison cell in Den Bosch. He is now free but will appear in court soon.
