Nutritionist Elena Solomatina warns us not to risk our health by eating ready-made salads that may contain dangerous botulism toxins.

In an interview with Vechernyaya Moskva, she recommended avoiding several risky summer salads.

She believes that insufficient quality ingredients may have been added to the prepared salads, and the dishes themselves may have been stored improperly. “So the botulism bacteria that live in soil and water can multiply there. They can get into vegetables, meat or mushrooms. But they need a lack of air to multiply, such as in canned foods,” she explains.

The nutritionist strongly advises against buying ready-made salads containing fish, meat, eggs, which are already seasoned with mayonnaise or other fatty sauces during the summer. “Bacteria multiply very quickly in humid conditions,” she adds.

The nutritionist’s advice includes a warning against buying ready-made fruit salads in the summer. In her opinion, fruit quickly spoils in hot weather, especially if sugar or yogurt sauces are added. To avoid problems, it is recommended to prepare such salads yourself and eat them immediately.
