St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): The National Man and Biosphere (MAB) Planning Committee met on Monday, July 1, to discuss the upcoming review of the St. Mary’s Biosphere Reserve. The series of meetings included key stakeholders focusing on the management strategy for the Biosphere Reserve.
A highlight of the meeting was the participation of Ms June-Marie Mow Robinson, Consultant to UNESCO. Ms Robinson’s presence highlighted the international community’s interest in this review and commitment to protecting the ecological and cultural landscape of the Sainte Marie Biosphere.
During the meeting, the Committee outlined several objectives for the review, emphasizing biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and community engagement. Ms. Robinson shared insights and recommendations based on UNESCO’s global experience in managing biosphere reserves.
The next steps in the review process will involve detailed field assessments and stakeholder consultations to collect the necessary data. We will contact relevant departments and agencies to provide comprehensive information.
