Kamal Karazi, foreign affairs adviser to the leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei, warned that Israel could launch a full-scale attack on Hezbollah, which would lead to the outbreak of a regional war. The Islamic Republic and the “resistance axis” support the war against Hezbollah in Lebanon “with all possibilities.”
In an interview with the Financial Times on Tuesday, July 12, Kamal Kharrazi said the Islamic Republic is “not interested” in regional wars and called on the United States to put pressure on Israel to prevent further escalation of the situation.
But in response to a question about whether the Islamic Republic would provide military support to Hezbollah in the event of a full-scale conflict, Kharrazi said: “All Lebanese people, Arab countries and members of the resistance axis will support Lebanon against Israel.”
Karazi’s comments came as some Arab countries defended Israel when the Islamic Republic launched missile and drone attacks against Israel and stopped the attack.
“There is a risk that the war will spread to the entire region; a war involving all countries, including Iran,” Karazi said in an interview.
“In this situation, we have no choice but to support Hezbollah in any way,” Karazi said. “The expansion of the war is not in anyone’s interest, neither Iran nor the United States,” Karazi added.
Many opponents of the Islamic Republic have repeatedly expressed displeasure over the use of Iranian resources for the Islamic Republic’s proxy groups, such as the Lebanese Hezbollah group, which has led to the imposition of numerous sanctions.
Since Hamas launched its terrorist attack on Israel on March 15, 1402, Hezbollah has opened a new front against Israel by firing rockets, attacking the border, and spreading the danger of a regional war. The conflict is mostly confined to the border, but there are concerns that it will escalate into a full-scale war.
