Landless People’s Movement (LPM) chief whip Utaara Mootu has tabled a motion in Parliament seeking urgent and transparent accountability from the government on its support for entrepreneurs and the startup ecosystem.
“This motion questions the adequacy of current funding mechanisms and the role of government in nurturing young entrepreneurs who are critical to innovative growth and economic diversification,” she said.
The motion also requires relevant government agencies to submit detailed reports on the expenditure, results and effectiveness of youth entrepreneurship funding programs.
If current measures are found to be inadequate, the bill would seek a strategic reorganization, stressing the need for an aggressive, well-funded program to support youth business activity.
Mutu said the purpose of the motion was not only to question but also to push for major improvements in government policies to ensure youth entrepreneurship was prioritized in the national economic strategy.
