Coal users in Lilongwe will have the opportunity to receive coal supplies from Mozambique’s Moetize after Nacala Logistics successfully delivered its first batch of coal to its customers.

A train carrying coal from Shayona Cement Limited arrived safely at Kanengo station from Moatize on Wednesday.
Previously, the railway between Barakha and Lilongwe had been successfully reconnected.
In this regard, traders/importers and exporters from the Central and Northern regions as well as Zambia can now access the rail link at Kanengo and no longer need to go to Liwonde or Limbe to load or receive goods.
The rail connectivity is expected to have a positive impact on reducing the transportation cost of goods to various locations.
Currently, Malawi’s major trade destinations outside the country connected by railways include the Ports of Nacala, Moatize and the Port of Beira, which is connected via the Marka railway line under construction.
