Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang, in his capacity as Acting Governor, signed a proclamation Thursday designating May as National Water Safety Month. The proclamation calls for educating the public on safe practices when enjoying the ocean, pool or other body of water. “Water safety is always an important part of our community,” Apatang said. “We have to be mindful of it, especially for our children. As for hotel pools, we have to make sure there are lifeguards there at all times.” Glenn Policare, President and Co-Owner of West Pacific Training Solutions, said, “As co-sponsors of this proclamation, along with the World Waterpark Association, we are pleased to help raise awareness of water safety in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. We are proud to provide American Red Cross training for lifeguards throughout the islands and assist with Learn to Swim programs throughout the islands…”
