St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN): Assistant Police Commissioner Travis Rogers warns those planning to smoke during the 3-day St. Kitts Festival concerts. “Stay in your lane,” Rogers said.

“We have to plead with our people. I know you want to come, you want to smoke a joint, you want people to see you, you want to respond to the artist’s phrasing, but there are rules and regulations. ‘Stay in your lane.’ We had it last year, and people can certainly smoke marijuana in designated areas. We ask that those who are inclined to smoke keep their distance and stay in their own spots.”

Warner Park will be the site of the St. Kitts Music Festival from June 27 to 29. 4/20 or the designated smoking area, known as High Rise, will be located on the mound between the football and cricket fields.

Rogers advised everyone that these rules and regulations are set by the festival committee and people should abide by them or face the consequences.

“Do not smoke in areas where spectators or members of the public gather,” Rogers said. “Anyone caught doing so will be dealt with… The last thing we want to do is kick anyone out of the stadium, for lack of a better word, but that’s what will happen. If you don’t follow the rules and regulations of the festival, we will do everything we can to ensure patrons are safe, happy and have a good experience at the festival.”

The Assistant Commissioner of Police said everyone should be considerate of others, stressing that some customers may suffer from smoke-triggered illnesses such as asthma.

“You can’t come down and affect people in the general admission area because some people might have asthma, that’s why we have medical staff on the ground. This fumes is unbearable and you have to consider or take into account that you are affecting other people.”

ACP Rogers reiterated that security forces will take action against individuals found smoking outside designated smoking areas.
