ESPN told viewers that this person is Dalton Knecht, and he certainly looks different from the real person.

That player wasn’t the Tennessee guard, but rather France’s Tidjane Salaün, who was selected sixth overall by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2024 NBA Draft on Wednesday.

The ESPN broadcast team attempted to feature Knecht on the broadcast before the Hornets draft, but ended up misidentifying Saran.

The Lakers ultimately selected Knecht with the 17th pick.

ESPN mistakenly identified French teenager Tidjane Salaün as Tennessee winger Dalton Knecht during its live broadcast Wednesday night. ESPN

Most likely, every commentator and fan pooh-poohed this because the two men were nothing alike.

The mistake caused uproar on the social media platform, with many users deeming it as “impressive” to confuse the two as it was awful.

One X user post“That’s not the Dalton Knecht I know 💀💀.”

Another added sarcastically“🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The draft started out perfect! OMG!!! Dalton Knecht.”

Saran, who is 6-foot-9, averaged nine points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while playing for the Cholet Basketball club in France’s LNB Pro A league.

Knecht had an impressive final year at Tennessee.

He helped the team to one of its best seasons in history, going 27-9 but losing to Purdue in the Elite Eight.

Knecht averaged 21.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Years from now, the two men might look back on this moment as a fun memory — but ESPN quickly felt the pain of their mistake.
