Agar Saeed Mumtazil Mehdi, representative of the Inter-Religious Dialogue Chapter of Jammu and Kashmir Anjuman-Sharishyan President Agar Saeed Hassan, attended the 9th Peace and Reconciliation Conference in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Agha Mumtazil, while delivering a paper titled “The Role of Interfaith Dialogue in Conflict Resolution,” noted that interfaith dialogue is a process of open and respectful communication between individuals of different faiths, reads the statement received by KNS.
It aims to increase understanding, clarify misunderstandings, and encourage respect for the beliefs of others.
“In today’s world, where religious beliefs often intersect with socio-political and ethnic identities, leading to complex conflicts, interfaith dialogue becomes a tool for peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Historically, Kashmir has been a melting pot of various religious and cultural influences, including Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. The blend of these traditions has fostered a unique Kashmiri culture – a shared sense of identity and cultural ethos that emphasizes harmony and brotherhood among all Kashmiris, regardless of their religious beliefs,” the statement read.
This spirit is a model for peaceful coexistence, mutual support and mutual promotion among different religious groups.
While highlighting the role of Khomeini and Kashmiri Agha Sayyed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safvi and Mirwaiz Kashmiri Dr Moulana Mohammad Umar Farooq, founder and chairman of Anjuman Inter-Religious Dialogue Chapter, Mumtazil Mahdi said the core of this tradition of communal harmony is the pulpit of Jamia Masjid in Srinagar and Markaz e Imam Bargha Budgam, which are symbols of the region’s pluralistic spirit.
The statement also said that the sermons delivered by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Agha Hasan at these places stressed the values of peace, brotherhood and coexistence, resonating with the teachings of Islam and reflecting the wider commitment of Kashmiris to communal harmony.
In his statement to KNS, he stressed the role of religious leaders in promoting communal harmony and provided insights to other regions facing similar problems.
