• In the last match of Group E of the European Cup, Slovakia and Romania drew 1-1.
• This means both teams advance to the round of 16.

No non-aggression pact! Slovakia and Romania kept their promise not to agree to a push-ball match and instead helped ensure fans at the Frankfurt stadium got their money’s worth – despite a prolonged rain shower.

We fought for more than an hour to win. As the thunderstorm started over the stadium, both teams had great chances to make it 2-1 in a matter of minutes.

Thunderstorms bring cool and deep terrain

In the 61st minute, the Romanians took the lead for the first time after two chances from Razvan Marin and Denis Dragus. Shortly afterwards, Lucas Haraslin’s shot flew just a few centimeters past the Romanian goal.

But the longer the game lasted, the more cautious the teams became – probably because their strength was weakening every minute on the completely wet ground. In the end, the two sides drew 1-1, and both sides locked their tickets to the round of 16.

Romania can even be happy with a group stage win as Belgium failed to score in the parallel match against Ukraine.

Interesting start

The game started off with great excitement: as soon as the kick-off sounded, the Slovak team broke the Romanian team’s goal for the first time.

Time and again they came dangerously close to goalkeeper Florin Nita, but the best chances in the opening minutes still belonged to the players in yellow: Andrei Ratiu scored after a beautiful combination; Slovak goalkeeper Martin Dubravka had his shot blocked.

Slovaks present – ​​Romanians react

In the 24th minute, the game really reached its climax, when Slovak midfielder Ondrej Duda sneaked into the middle and headed in a cross from Juraj Kucka, 1-0. Romania’s defense in this situation was inadequate.

However, less than fifteen minutes later, Slovakian full-back David Hanko was awkwardly lined up on the opposite side. He tripped Ianis Hagi on the left edge of the penalty area. The foul in the penalty area was extremely weak – the result after VAR intervened: penalty. Razvan Marin took the penalty and scored in the left bottom corner, 1-1.
